Our Team

Bill MorrisBill Morris, President/CEO

It could be said that Bill is just one of the many resources recycled at Blue Star Recyclers, because after a 25 year career in the telecommunications industry Bill wasn't sure where he was needed. Co-founding Blue Star Recyclers in November, 2009 with Tony and Mary Fagnant was the culmination of a long string of developments spanning the coincidental to the miraculous, and everyone on the founding team knew they were onto something special. Bill says, "I am the luckiest guy I know — to love your work and your team this much while helping our community, our local economy, and our planet."

Bill received the 2011 Recycler of the Year Award from the Colorado Association for Recycling, and the 2011 Small Business Person of the Year Award from Small Business Development Center and Better Business Bureau of Southern Colorado. He currently serves on the Colorado Springs Area Chamber of Commerce Sustainability Advisory Council and Colorado Springs Sustainable Business Alliance. Arnie NavarroArnie Navarro, Vice President

Arnie is a true "Renaissance Man", with degrees and certifications in two other professions and a wide array of skills. His initial attraction to electronics recycling was the opportunity to drive commercial trucks, which is where you will find him on most days when he is running our business recycling route service.

When people ask how Blue Star Recyclers grew so quickly in the beginning and how after two years we have retained virtually all our customers… we tell them we have a "secret weapon" named Arnie. He also has a strong connection and relationship with every team member employed at Blue Star Recyclers, and he sets the pace and the tone of our work floor every day through his outstanding work ethic and sense of humor. Contact Arnie directly at 719.494.6342 or arnie@bluestarrecyclers.com

Nick MoscosoNick Moscoso, Logistics Assistant

Nick joined the Community Intersections electronics recycling team in May, 2010. He quickly applied his experience and skills and became a top member of that team, and one year later in May, 2011 he was promoted to employment with Blue Star Recyclers. Nick is a certified forklift driver and his primary responsibility is helping collect, transport, weigh, sort, and stage recyclable electronics materials for processing. He is a great team member and an invaluable member of our organization.

Along with being a highly decorated Special Olympian, Nick is the 2011 Achiever of the Year from the Arc of the Pikes Peak Region. Nick's favorite saying is, "It's All Good".

Dave FryDave Fry, Recycling Program Supervisor

When Dave accepted a job offer from Community Intersections, he had no idea this new career path would lead to him sorting through box after box of other people's junk. However, upon being promoted to the position of Enclave Supervisor in December of 2010, that is exactly what has occurred.

Under his leadership, the Blue Star separation team has more than doubled its level of productivity. Dave is a calm and attentive supervisor, who uses positive reinforcement and humor to keep the team on point. Dave is originally from Minnesota, but spent much of his childhood living in Senegal. Dave graduated from the University of Minnesota-Duluth and is currently working towards a degree in nursing.

Andy O'RileyAndy O'Riley, Vice President

According to Andy, his primary role at Blue Star Recyclers is that of eye candy. However, Andy's official responsibility within the organization is to oversee the electronics collected and disassembled by our separation team, and the selection and management of our downstream partners who convert those materials to be used again in the manufacturing process. He also oversees the implementation and management of VERN (Vocational Electronics Recycling Network) in rural communities. Additionally, he created and manages the EMS (Environmental Management System) for our entire operations.

Andy was awarded the 2011 Rising Star Award from the Colorado Springs Business Journal for his exceptional abilities and outstanding contribution to our community. He is a tireless, passionate and articulate advocate for persons with disabilities, and an invaluable contributor to our mission. Contact Andy directly at 719.464.4285 or andy@bluestarrecyclers.com

Laura ChickeringLaura Chickering,
Community Outreach Coordinator

Before joining our leadership team Laura earned her stripes as a recycling event partner and advocate of Blue Star Recyclers. In fact, her willingness to put up with Bill, Andy and Arnie proves she has courage and patience!

Laura brings a wealth of experience in event planning, volunteer coordination, and business development. Along with managing our existing community recycling event programs and social media, Laura will build a brand new volunteer team and develop our fundraising efforts, which will provide even more opportunities for people to learn about and support our mission. Richie ColeRichie Cole, Recycling Tech

In a way, Richie Cole is as much our product as he is our employee. After 15 months as a paid worker in the electronics recycling program with Community Intersections, Richie demonstrated the aptitude and attitude to earn a promotion into competitive employment with Blue Star Recyclers. One of the key goals in the CI program is to provide vocational training and real work experience to prepare their workers for competitive employment in the community. Richie’s successful transition and vocational development is proof-positive that people with disabilities can make a positive contribution to the bottom line of any employer.

Our Board

Unlike many non-profit organizations, we were originally established as a for-profit corporation. This enabled us to develop a self-sustaining business model and not be overly dependent upon outside funding. By early 2011 we were able to cover our own operating costs, and in June 2011 we became a 501C3 social enterprise nonprofit organization in order to better fulfill our Mission.
